How many shifts does a 24/72 firefighter work in 2027?

91 or 92 shifts, depending on your group: the Jan 1 group works 92 (2,208 hours), the Jan 2 group works 91 (2,184 hours), the Jan 3 group works 91 (2,184 hours), the Jan 4 group works 91 (2,184 hours). That's an average of about 42 hours a week.

Which 24/72 shift works Christmas 2027?

Christmas Day 2027 is a Saturday. The Jan 3 group is on duty that day. The Jan 2 group works Christmas Eve and goes off at 7 am on Christmas morning. The Jan 1 group and the Jan 4 group are off for both.

Who works Thanksgiving and the Fourth of July in 2027?

How do I know which group I am in?

Look at the date of your first shift in January 2027: on a 24/72 it has to be January 1, 2, 3 or 4, and that's your group. The letter your department uses (A, B, C or D) doesn't matter, because departments assign letters differently. Already know a shift in 2026? Your first 2026 shift was January 2 for the Jan 1 group, January 3 for the Jan 2 group, January 4 for the Jan 3 group, January 1 for the Jan 4 group.

How many weekends off do I get in 2027?

On a 24/72 a weekend is completely free when you work on a Thursday and then not again until Monday, so about one weekend in four. In 2027: the Jan 1 group gets 13, the Jan 2 group gets 13, the Jan 3 group gets 13, the Jan 4 group gets 13 weekends with no shift from Friday morning to Monday morning.

Why are my 2027 dates different from 2026?

A year has 365 days, which leaves one day over after 91 four-day cycles, so every 24/72 date moves by a day each year. Christmas, birthdays and other fixed dates fall on a different group's shift each year.
