A 24/48 repeats every 3 days, and a year has 365, so each group's dates move every New Year. If you know your 2026 schedule, here's where you'll be in 2027:

Frequently asked questions

How many shifts does a 24/48 firefighter work in 2027?

121 or 122 shifts, depending on your group: the Jan 1 group works 122 (2,928 hours), the Jan 2 group works 122 (2,928 hours), the Jan 3 group works 121 (2,904 hours). That's an average of about 56 hours a week.

Which 24/48 shift works Christmas 2027?

Christmas Day 2027 is a Saturday. The Jan 2 group is on duty that day. The Jan 1 group works Christmas Eve and goes off at 7 am on Christmas morning. The Jan 3 group is off for both.

Who works Thanksgiving and the Fourth of July in 2027?

Thanksgiving (Thursday, November 25): the Jan 2 group. Independence Day (Sunday, July 4): the Jan 2 group. The full list of 2027 holidays is in the table above.

How do I know which group I am in?

Look at the date of your first shift in January 2027: on a 24/48 it has to be January 1, 2 or 3, and that's your group. The letter your department uses (A, B or C) doesn't matter, because departments assign letters differently. Already know a shift in 2026? Your first 2026 shift was January 3 for the Jan 1 group, January 1 for the Jan 2 group, January 2 for the Jan 3 group.

Will I get any full weekends off in 2027?

Not on a straight 24/48. With a shift every third day, every weekend has a shift that starts on the Saturday or the Sunday, or a Friday shift that runs into Saturday morning. The Jan 1 group starts 17 Saturday and 17 Sunday shifts; The Jan 2 group starts 18 Saturday and 17 Sunday shifts; The Jan 3 group starts 17 Saturday and 18 Sunday shifts. Departments that add a Kelly day (Kelly schedule) or use 48/96 get some free weekends.

Why are my 2027 dates different from 2026?

A year has 365 days, which isn't a multiple of 3, so every 24/48 date moves by a day or two each year. Christmas, birthdays and other fixed dates fall on a different group's shift each year. That's why it's worth checking the new year as soon as it's available.

Can I print or add my 2027 24/48 calendar to my phone?
